UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon pointed out in his statement regarding the TB day, that the rate of the epidemic is currently on a slowdown due to international community efforts. Nevertheless World Health Organization reports suggest that as of today, one third of the global population is infected by TB. TB still accounts for 1 death every 20 seconds. For millions of patients medical help is inaccessible.
Global TB Day
The WHO claims the TB is the major reason of infection disease-related mortality in the world. TB accounts for 80-85% of all infection related deaths. Unfortunately Russia is currently listed among the top 22 countries worst affected by TB. In 2007 there were 117 738 of confirmed TB infections, and relative morbidity rate totaled to 82.6 per 100 000 people.
Being the WHO member, Russia is committed to the global TB program. According to the WHO report, Russia and South Africa are bearing the heaviest expenses in their attempt to fight the disease…
